Course Drop Policy

  • There are 3 deadlines for dropping courses at Washington.

    • Deadline 1: Dropping a course by this date ensures there will be no record of your enrollment in the course on your transcript.

    • Deadline 2: Dropping a course by this date results in an "N" being placed on your transcript.  This is done to record your enrollment in the course and will not affect GPA or extra-curricular eligibility.

    • Deadline 3: Dropping a course by this date will result in an "N" being placed on your transcript if you are earning a passing grade (D- or above) in the course.  If you are receiving an F, an F will appear on your transcript.

  • Starting the 2008 fall semester, Kirkwood Community College will be adding a lineup of honors courses to its Honors Program.  In addition to the one-credit-hour individual projects that honors students can do with faculty mentors, they will now be able to take honors sections with other high-achieving students in a stimulating learning environment.

  • Honors courses will be academically rigorous, promoting active, personal engagement with the subject matter, discussion, effective listening, critical thinking, collaboration with peers, and meaningful and innovative applications.

  • Students with less than 12 earned credits at the college level must meet one of the following criteria to enroll: a high school GPA of 3.6, a minimum ACT score of 25, or an SAT score of 1170.  Students with at least 12 earned credits must have a minimum college GPA of 3.4.

  • Ten honors sections have been designated for the 2008-09 school year.  A limited number of scholarships to pay for the cost of an honors course are available.  And students who complete an honors section with a “B” grade or higher may be eligible for a free course at Mr. Mercy College.  For more information, visit the Kirkwood Honors Program Web site at www.kirkwood.edu/honorsprogram, or contract the Honors Program chair, Dr. Peter Jauhiainen (peter.jauhiainen@kirkwood.edu; 319-398-5899 x.5709).
