Meeting Minutes
April 11, 2006
President Sara Clark called the meeting to order at 9:15 a.m. Twenty six people were in attendance. The meeting began with a program given by L.A. teacher Danny Yuska and members of the speech team.
Executive Committee Reports
Secretary – The minutes of the March meeting were circulated and approved.
Treasurer – Lisa Thirnbeck asked that 3 people form a committee to do an audit this summer. Judy Baird, Karen Schlehuber and Janelle Parks volunteered to be on this committee. Lisa also reminded all committees to request their funds so she can write the checks.
President – Sara Clark asked that all committee heads get their reports in to her in the next month.
Staff Comments
Dr. Ralph Plagman – Principal, announced that the new football coach was meeting with the assistant coaches today. The media was also in the building to meet the new coach.
There are 643 AP test sign-ups which is a new record.
Dave Coates – Guidance counselor, reminded that AP exams will be held during the first two weeks of May. In a week the students will be called in to fill out the pre-exam clerical information. Teacher preference forms will be available in another week – an announcement will be made to the students. April 21 st is the midterm. Senioritis is hitting some students hard. Summer PE will be offered – possibly being opened up to other schools to fill the slots. Any student who indicated an interest in summer PE on their class registration form will get a note about signing up. The cost will be $112. Also a reminder that seniors can get two academic waivers only if they have at least one trimester of 32.5 credit hours or more during their senior year. Finals will be held on Friday, June 2 nd and Monday, June 5 th . The College Panel planning committee will be gathering soon to start planning for next fall's panel night.
PeggyHardesty – Faculty Liason and 9 th grade counselor, reported that it will be possible for parents of incoming ninth grade students to review teacher preferences with Peggy by setting up an appointment. This should be done during the last week of April. Peggy has enrolled 4-5 more students, putting the total for next year at over 460. There is a Summer Entrepreneur Camp opportunity for freshmen (or younger) at the U of I - contact Peggy for more info. Interviews are currently taking place to fill Dave Coates' position. Summer Driver's ed. Forms are available in the counseling office. Driver's Ed. during the school year will be taken over by Kirkwood but will still be offered during class period times. Kirkwood will do the scheduling for this.
Committee Reports
Cookie Sales – The last cookie sale was huge success with all the cookies disappearing quite quickly. The next sale will be in May.
Fundraising – Please use your Target VISA cards for your graduation purchases at Target.
Grounds – The area around the sign, at the corner of Forest and Cottage Grove , will have plantings going in. The committee will be meeting this week to discuss other work to be done.
Health Ed – Lynn Dennis reported that the brochures that were handed out to seniors during the senior panel will also be included in a mailing to parents along with the student's final transcript. Planning for next year's Health Ed. Series is already underway. The other item of note is that the Adolescent Health and Wellness Taskforce, comprised of representatives from Mercy Medical Center, St. Luke's Hospital and CR area school districts continues to assess current sexual health education offerings in the metro area school districts and has decided to focus on the Middle School level at this time.
Hospitality – Bobbie Pearson asked for contributions of large salads for the Teacher Appreciation luncheon being held on Thursday, May 11 th . A sign-up sheet was passed around for 40 salads. (The sheet was not filled) Also, the next PTA meeting will be a salad potluck lunch and anyone attending should bring a salad. (More details in the announcement section)
Post Prom - Beth Roof thanked for all who donated to the Post Prom solicitation so far. The line-up of events will be the same as last year and will again be held at CR Bowling Center. All admission, games, food, and drinks are free to each senior and their guest. There are also many great prizes for the seniors to win. The committee encourages all Wash parents to donate to this worthwhile event – in order to keep our kids safe and occupied in healthy ways on the night of Prom. So far, donations are quite a bit below last year's pace.
Volunteer Coordinator – Leslee Rambo asked for volunteers to come in on April 27 th and 28 th to help do computer inputting when the teacher request sheets come back to the counseling office.
Old Business - The election of officers for this coming year was held. All names on the slate were voted on and approved.

New Business - City PTA asked for a donation of $20 to help purchase prizes for the State convention. This was voted on and approved Announcements – The next PTA meeting will be the annual salad potluck on Tuesday, May 9 th and will be held at 10:00 am at the home of Sorina Abernathey, 357 Woodland Dr. SE. Bring a salad to share – drinks and desserts will be provided. The office staff joins us for this luncheon so please bring ample salads. (Parking is available on one side of Woodland Dr. as well as the driveway areas.)
The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 AM . Dr. Plagman was not available for Questions and Answers due to the media meeting with the new head coach.
