Meeting Minutes

May 11, 2004

 

 

President Lynn Dennis called the meeting to order at 10:15 a.m. Twenty people were in attendance.

 

Executive Committee Reports

Secretary � The minutes of the April meeting were approved as circulated.

Treasurer � Judy Baird circulated the monthly treasury report. Dr. Plagman requested help from PTA funds for 4 new picnic tables for the courtyard area at an approximate cost of $300. A motion was made to approve the expenditure. It was seconded and approved.

President � Given that this is School Board Recognition week, Lynn thanked Mary Meisterling for her commitment to our PTA. Sorina Abernathy has agreed to bring back the PTA Reflections program this year at WHS. Wash has not had an active PTA Reflections committee for many years .

President Elect � Sara Clark and Pam Westrom will be taking a break from Hospitality. We need someone to fill their shoes. They have put together a very detailed notebook for the position. Please contact Tracy McPartland if you would be interested. tracymcp1@mchsi.com

 

Staff Comments

Dr. Ralph Plagman, Principal, discussed the changes in the teaching staff for next year, emphasizing the core courses remained protected from cuts. Dr. Plagman gave background information on the new teachers for next year.

Mr. Dave Coates , Director of Guidance, reported that AP testing is wrapping up, finals are coming up in June. A new scheduling item � underclassmen may now have more than one sports waiver (up to now, only Seniors had unlimited sports waivers).

Dr. Peggy Hardesty , Faculty Liaison and 9 th grade Counselor, thanked PTA for the teacher appreciation breakfast. If students are interested in summer opportunities contact Dr. Hardesty.

 

Committee Reports

Academic Support � Sara Sauter announced the tutor appreciation reception will be held Wednesday, May 19 th at 3pm in the IMC.

By Laws � Per the State PTA, we will not be able to post the by laws on our web site. We will send them out as an attachment to the next minutes emailing.

Grounds � Sue Winegarden reported that the tree planting (on the hill and in courtyard) is completed for the spring, with help from Trees Forever. PTA will be responsible for watering those trees over the summer. If you would like to help, let Sue know. Plans are for a fall kickoff for the 50 th anniversary Courtyard project.

Health Education � Lynn Dennis and committee are meeting with agencies to get dates set. The session dates will be set and placed on the school calendar for next year.

Hospitality � Thank you to Jade Hart and Janelle Parks for the making the calls for the Teacher breakfast.

Post Prom � Everything is in place including a great forecast. The hypnotist will be performing at 12:30 .

Volunteer Coordinators � Please fill in your hours for the end of the year.

 

 

Old Business

•  Audit committee � Appointment of Scott Gasway, Julie Gasway and Janelle Parks to audit the books was moved, seconded and approved
•  Annual committee reports � please turn in as soon as possible

 

 

New Business

•  Installation of Officers for 2004-05: President � Tracy McPartland , President Elect � Sara Clark, Secretary � LaNae Ceryanec , Treasurer � Judy Baird

 

Announcements

May 14 th is an early dismissal day

May 15 th WHS Prom and Post Prom party

May 29 th Commencement, US Cellular Center , 7:30pm .

 

 

The meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon and questions/answers with Dr. Plagman.
