Franklin and McKinley students voted for Washington's school colors: royal blue and red.
They also picked the mascot name: Warrior.
Later the
Washington student body chose a Spartan Warrior emblem.
We are the Warriors!
The mighty, mighty, Warriors!
Everywhere we go, people want to know,
Who we are, so we tell them.
We are the Warriors!
The might, mighty, Warriors!

Two new schools opened in 1957. They were Washington and Jefferson -- named after Presidents. Washington merged Franklin and McKinley students for grades 10-12; now grades 9-12.
September 3, 1957, was the first day of school at the new Washington.
Principal Fred J. Kluss began the day with an announcement over the
intercom:
"Here we are, and here we go!"
There were two principals during our three years: Fred J. Kluss from 1957-1959; Don Birdsell from 1959-1962.
The yearbook -- Monument -- was named after the Washington Monument in the nation's capitol. (Marilyn Mack was the editor of the 1961 edition.)
The school paper -- Surveyor -- was so named because George Washington was a surveyor. (Mary Morris was the editor our senior year.)
In the Fall of 1958, the students voted on a name for a variety show: Mu-Da-Co. It stands for MUsic, DAnce, COmedy.
Washington and Jefferson held a joint graduation ceremony at Kingston
Stadium in 1961: Washington had 462 graduates. (Remember the faculty
checking to make sure our caps were on straight -- not tilted.)
Washington Alma Mater
Oh, Alma Mater Washington
To thee we raise this song,
Oh, Alma Mater Washington
To thee our hearts belong.
Oh, Washington, our Washington
This anthem is our prayer,
May God from day to endless day
Still have thee in His care.
From Washington on graduation day
We'll have to journey on,
Too soon our youth will fade away
And classmates will be gone.
Oh, Washington, our Washington
'Though time will bid us part,
The memories of our high school days
Will live within our hearts.
